Assignment

THE ORIGINAL ASSIGNMENT FROM MA

Goal

Design and execute a learning activity that reflects your knowledge and strengths as a learner, teacher and reflective practitioner and includes the appropriate use of instructional technology.

Due Date

Executive Summary of Activity: March 10, 2007

Team Presentations: Weeks of March 5, 12 & 19

Process

In teams of 3-4, you will design and execute a learning activity that covers a concept or set of concepts from the suggested topics. The activity must include:

A broader learning goal or outcome to which the activity maps

Essential question (s) addressed by the activity

An activity outline

An assigned reading/content item (if necessary)

Appropriate use of instructional technologies

Assessment of the learners

Assessment of the activity

References list

The above information should be summarized in an executive summary, submitted on March 10, 2007. The summary should be no more than three pages long (not including the reference list). In the discussions after each team activity, all participants will be asked to reflect on the activity from both the learner and facilitator/teacher perspective.

In the three designated TI sessions, each team will have an opportunity to execute their activity. This can be done via TI, discussions, and/or other interactive approaches. Remember, each activity should include learner to learner connections, learner to content connections, and learner to facilitator connections.

Please make me aware of your team membership and selected topics during our F2F session in Orlando. We will have break-out time to begin the planning and design of the activities during our session as well.

Suggested topics:

Virtual reality in education

Interactive gaming in education

ePortfolios in education

Course management systems

Open source versus proprietary technologies in education

Tablets in education

IMS, SCORM, or other content standards

VOIP in education

Rubric

In order to be marked an A, the team must complete all aspects of the assignment and clearly demonstrate full grasp of the learning design approaches and applications as discussed through this stage of the course. The reflection conducted in the discussions following the team presentation must be thorough and offer opportunity to inform activity change.

B and C markings will be awarded when teams complete only a subset of the activities or do not clearly demonstrate full grasp of the learning design approaches and applications as discussed through this stage of the course.
